of his Great Didactic。 Then, the theoretical source and foundation will be analyzed。 In the third part, I will move from his theoretical beliefs to the practical application of his theory and try to give full use of its advantages and make up for its disadvantages, thus,apply to Chinese current education situation。 Finally, I will present the enlightment andintrospection that I learned from this fi gure。

I like most fi gures appearing in thebook of " a history of English languageteaching" such as Francis Bacon, Guy Miege, Ben jonson and so on。 However,for Jan Amos Comenius, who was a genius, possibly the only one that the history of language teaching can claim,I don´t just like him, I actually love him。Therefore, this paper is going to discuss him as well as his achievements and try to shed a new light on this prominent teacher and philosopher in the history of language teaching。

the core of his Great Didactic can be divided into two perspectives。 The first perspective is viewed in terms of Comenius´s teaching belief。 According to the textbook, we can clearly see that the Great Didactic was an ambitious study that attempted to outline a complete curriculum for a reformed educational system。 His goal was nothing less than a universal system of education through which we may "seek and fi nd a method of instruction by which teachers may teach less, but learners may learn more;by which schools may be the scene of less noise, aversion and useless labour,but more of leisure, enjoyment and solid progress; and through which the Christian community may have less darkness, perplexity and dissension,but on the other hand, more light,orderliness,peace and rest"。

Apart from being a teacher,Comenius is also a philosopher。Therefore, the second perspective of the core of Comenius’s Great Didactic could be viewed in terms of his philosophical belief。 In fact, we could always fi nd that Comenius was a person full of religious spirits as all of his teaching almost follows the same pattern, starting with the creation and moving through human life to heavenly wisdom and salvation。

His universal educational system offers a philosophy of Christian education in the framework of a curriculum "that the entire youth of both sexes, none being excepted, shall quickly, pleasantly and throughly become learned in the Sciences, pure in morals, trained in piety and in this manner instructed in all things necessary for the present and for the future life。"

First of all, we need to arise the awareness of education。 Due to the insufficient educational asmosphere,Comenius´s second attempt to put his theory to practice failed。 Therefore,insuffi cient educational atmosphere will also hinder Chinese educational system。We should always bear in mind that the real purpose of education is to enlighten and educate people for their future development。

also, we still need to understand that genuine education is a kind of creative discovery。 It means that you look at the same thing as everyone else, but you think something different。 In fact,education is
